In the recent past Indian-subcontinent has witnessed a steady growth of many Rail based Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in different cities of India. With the increase in the number of rail-based MRTS in India a need for a body is felt which could bring together these organizations whether it is involved in creation, operation and maintenance of Metro Rail, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) or Mono Rail systems. Such a body provides a platform where members can share their learnings and experiences with each other in secured environment and thus promote mutual cooperation among them. Formation of such a body will definitely help to create a resource of information which could be relied upon as a tool for efficient decision making in rail based public transport systems in India. The body also help its member to maintain an effective liaison and coordination with all the Government and non-government stake holders.

In order to envisage the above vision a body called “Indian Metro Rail Organizations’ Society” was registered on 18/07/2018 under societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, popularly known as I-Metro.

“The Indian Metro Rail Organisations’ Society is registered as trust with the Income Tax Department under section 12AA of the Income Tax Act 1961 vide order dated 6th January, 2021”.
